Sony Music builds app to support YouTube’s biggest-ever music livestream event with Google Cloud Platform

November 23rd 2013 was 1D-Day, a one-off global event for the boyband
One Direction
. The event featured a 7 hour live-stream by the band as well as a second screen quiz app that fans could play along with while the livestream was running.
1D Day was the biggest music livestream ever held on YouTube. According to the case study, it drew 772,000 concurrent viewers and 10.7 million playbacks . The Second Screen app performed flawlessly, with 630,000 unique visitors in just 10 hours, reaching peak traffic of 9,000 queries per second.
